DCLM Monday Bible Study March 18, 2024 Pastor W.f. Kumuyi - THE BLESSED BIBLE-BELIEVING DOERS OF THE WORD
TOPIC: THE BLESSED BIBLE-BELIEVING DOERS OF THE WORD.
TEXT: JAMES 1:22-27.
I welcome everyone to our Bible study again. Our Bible study has a purpose, the word of God understood, the word of God meditated upon, and the word of God prayed about is laid down for a purpose, for our Salvation, for our sanctification and whatever maybe happening around us, we will stand fast because the word of God makes us stand and steadfast. We are to be doers of the word, this mean we repent, and as we come like that, the word of God confronts us and tells us how to get to heaven. Since you've been learning the word, have you repented? Can you tell the exact thing that happened after being repented? The Lord commands us to be Holy. You've heard that many times, have you done that? Have you tarried? We are weak spiritually because we've not been waiting upon the Lord. Are you being filled with the Holy Ghost? Be not hearer of the word only but be ye doer of the word. Does love control our lives and channels our lives? The Lord wants us to be doers of the word, not preachers only, not hearers only.
POINT 1. THE FORGETFUL SELF-DELUDED HEARERS OF THE WORD.
JAMES 1:22-24.
When Satan deceives us, it's the most dangerous thing. If we are not doers of the word and we are hearers only, we deceive ourselves. Like Judas Iscariot, he heard every proclamation of Christ, but he was just a hearer of the word and not doer of the word. Those who are forgetful self-deluded hearers forget they are backsliders. They forget they are sinners, and there's a need for them to repent.
I. Forgetful self-deceievd hearers of the word.
James 1:22-24; Galatians 6:3; Hebrews 12:5-8; 2 Peter 1:8-10.
Sinners deceives himself, and he's hardened, he think himself to be something when he's nothing. Deceiving self sometimes starts from a little way and becomes a habit. And if he makes it a habit, he will land in hell. Can you think of yourself all you've heard? Message of Salvation, message of love, etc.... Are you remembering all you've heard, and are you taking it in heart when you want to take a decision? Do we forget that the word of God was given by inspiration for reproof? Our response will show whether we have forgotten the exhortation of the word of God. If God becomes fed up with you and there's no correction and rebuke, when God leaves you alone like that, then you are not His son but bastard. If the glorious grace of God abides in us, it makes us fruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. If you do the word of God, you shall never fall
II. The fruitless self-deluded handlers of His word.
2 Timothy 3:5,7; Luke 13:6-9; Hebrews 6:7-8; Matthew 7:17-23.
Those who teach other people and they don't do what they preach, they are self deluded and they are fruitless. They know the doctrine but they do not have the grace to do what they preach, they say and they do not, they are ever emphasising doctrine formal never able to come to the knowledge of the truth and those who are close to them like their wives and children will know that he has a form of godliness but he doesn't have the power to do what he proclaim. As we read the word, as we study the word, the Lord wants us to be fruitful. He wants that fruit of salvation to come to us. If we are not bearing fruit, God is not going to be waiting indefinitely, He gives us a chance today, and He wants us to be doers of the word. A man sow the seed, God sends the rain, and the seed brings forth the fruit, that land becomes blessed. We are to bear nourishing fruit because labour has been expended on us. We are to bear redemptive fruit, but if we bear the works of the flesh and the works of Satan, God will reject such people. A saved soul can not bring forth evil fruit. A truthful soul can not bear lying and deceptive fruit. A corrupt tree can not bring forth good fruit. Understand, those are the words of JESUS Christ, and Jesus spoke on that hell fire more than other preachers in the bible. By your fruit, you shall be known. Are you free from the works of the flesh? Are you doing the work of Christ? By your fruit, you shall be known. Jesus said, "Not everyone that calls Him Lord shall enter into the Kingdom of God, but those who are doers of the word." We need focus, we need decision, we need determination to be doers of the word. Some people fast and pray to cast out the devil, but they are not fasting to cast out the anger and bad habit in them. We must have Christ living in us.
Iii. The filthy self-defiling haters of this word.
Jude 1:10-13; 2 Timothy 4:3-4; Hosea 8:11-12; Ezekiel 33:31-33.
The people who defile themselves are haters of the word. Pride defiles Satan. Many people speak evil because they do not have the understanding of the word. They corrupt themselves, they have the lifestyle and the thought of sin even when nobody defile them, and they defile themselves. They fellowship with the people of God as if they are part of the fellowship of the people of God, but they are defiled, they are backsliders, when they talk, they talk on the foolish things they have done, they enjoy evil talking about that, yet they go to church, but they are haters of the word of God. The time has now come when people will not endure sound doctrine, they love motivation and excitement, they love what preachers says that makes them laugh and enjoy their sins. They can not endure sound doctrine. They don't enjoy the solid exhortation that will take them to heaven.
POINT 2. THE FAITHFUL SELF-DENYING HEARERS IN HIS WILL.
JAMES 1:22,25.
As we deny ourselves and we remain faithful unto the Lord, we shall be blessed.
I. Looking into the perfect law of liberty.
James 1:25; Psalms 19:7-10; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Isaiah 34:16.
The word of God is referred to as the perfect law of liberty. It liberates us, and it frees us. If we truly look into the perfect word of God, it will show us our imperfections, it will show us our iniquities, it's the word that shows us how we can be so cleanse that it perfect us. The law of the Lord is to be desired than silver and gold. The scriptures do not instruct us how to sin, how to be corrupt, and how to be defiled, but it's given so that it will teach us doctrine, give us reproof and instruction in righteousness. The Holy Bible is the perfect law of the Lord.
II. Living by the perfect love of the Lord.
Mathew 22:37-40; 7:12; Romans 13:8-10; Galatians 5:14,16,19-26.
We live by the perfect love of the Lord. That's the principle we live, and we never take vacation from that. Anywhere we are, and in any condition we are, this doesn't depend on the condition we are. We are to live by the perfect love of the Lord. We are to love God and love one another. It's a debt you must pay, and you pay that all the time. We owe it to one another to love one another. Because you love your neighbour, you will not want to do anything with her that will make him/her miss heaven, you will not offer your flesh, your body IN expressing your appreciation to them because if you're doing that, you are sending them to hell, you hate them by sending them to hell. We are to love our neighbours. That's the fulfilment of the law of God. The fruit of the Spirit is pure love, not fleshly lust. Those who truly belong to Christ, those who are born again, have crucified the flesh with the affections of lust. All that we have in the law, the interpretation of every statement there are perfect. Do to others as you want them to do to you.
III. Loaded with His perfect liberality for life.
James 1:25; Psalms 68:19; Ephesians 1:3; Hebrews 5:9.
As we daily obey the word we hear and comply with God's exhortation, He daily loaded us with benefits and all spiritual blessings. Christ lifts us up that we are sitting on the heavenly places, and He gives us blessings in those heavenly blessings. He has offered a perfect sacrifice, and we live according to the word of the perfect Saviour, He grants us salvation that lasts us forever.
POINT 3. THE FRUITFUL SELF-FORGETTING HARVESTERS IN "THIS WAY".
JAMES 1:26-27.
If we are going to be fruitful, we have to forget ourselves. The people who are profitable in life are the people who forget self, and they will be helpful to other people because they live a self forgetting life. We forget ourselves in the service of others, and all we want to do is to please God and not to please ourselves. You have to keep yourself from your past life, there are things, there are people that will make you filthy and guilty of your past life, if you want to be rarely free from guilty and evil, you keep your self from iniquity.
I. The believer's caution and bridled tongue in his walk.
James 1:26; Psalms 39:1-4; Proverbs 26:3-5; James 3:1-2.
If you claim you're on your way to heaven, you must bridle your tongue not to slander, not to lie, you have to bridle your tongue from deception, if you bridle your tongue, there will be no hatred, you will not hurt other people with your word of iniquity, we are to bridle our tongues from anything that is evil. If you're seriously going to heaven, you will not be religious but righteous, you will not be talkative, and you will bridle your tongue because you have something you're watching for. Sometimes, when you talk, you will forget your deficiencies, and you will forget you need to go back to the Cross and be ready for heaven. If you have a companion that is always talking, and he doesn't allow you to think of your life and think of your shortcomings, bridle your tongue. A fool is not thinking about heaven. He's not thinking about what he could appeal to. talkativeness will not allow him to meditate about his life. He is a fool. The people that do foolish thing, if you run after them, you will forget your calling, you will forget what the Lord want you to become in life, they don't think about heaven, they don't think about their shortcomings and they don't know the depth of their fallen, balance up everything, don't spend all your life responding to the fools who do not think about the future, you have to guide your mind and your tongue not to always bring you into failure, it'll become a habit that your tongue, your mind and your mouth will not lead you astray, no angry words, no hateful words, no revenging words.
II. The balanced care for the burdened in our world.
James 1:27; Job 29:12-16; 1 Timothy 5:3-16; Galatians 2:9-10.
We are to take burdens away from the helpless, render financial help, moral help, courage, and comfort. Look at the people around you and offer help to them. We ought to give help, lift up the burdens on the people, give them food, give them clothes and take financial burden away from them, that's the practical things we are to do, we have to cost joy in the heart of the people who are joyless, sad and sorrowful. You help them and the deficiency in them. You're able to render what they lack so that they will live a complete life
III. The biblical conservation of believers, unspotted by worldliness.
James 1:27; 4:4; Romans 12:2; 1 John 2:15-17.
The world will define you, you have to keep yourself from the festivity of the world, you have to keep yourself from everything they do that bring defilement to the believers. Don't be friendly with the world. Don't partake in their lifestyle so that you don't become enemy of God. If you die in that condition, where will you spend eternity? A command comes to us that we should love, not the world. The Lord grants us grace, purpose of heart, passion, and pursuit of the revelation of the word so that we will be doers of the word.
