TOPIC: DIVINE TRANSFORMATION THROUGH THE TOUCH OF FAITH
TEXT: MARK 5:25-34
Tonight, we are looking at Mark chapter 5. It is a very familiar story but it has a not-so-familiar application.
• 25 And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
• 26 And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse,
• 27 When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
• 28 For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
• 29 And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.
• 30 And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
• 31 And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
• 32 And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.
• 33 But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
• 34 And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
The story is about the touch the woman with the issue of blood had on the garment of the Lord Jesus Christ. Whether we touch Him or He touches us, there is always a demonstration of His power. And as we gather the instances in scriptures where people touched the Lord, it is always a demonstration of the power of God. He will touch you tonight in Jesus name.
Whenever the Lord touches us, or we touch Him, there is:
1. RECOVERY. If you have been down, despondent, or battling with diseases, plagues, sicknesses, and oppression, there will be recovery.
2. RESTORATION. If you have gone far away from the Lord, and you touch Him by faith, restoration will come into your life. Whatever you have lost and missed, there will be restoration after the touch of faith.
3. RENEWAL. Any part of your system from the spirit to the soul, and the body He renews. If you are weak, He renews your strength, when you are down, He lifts you up and there will be renewal.
4. REGENERATION, RECREATION. When the Lord touches you, there will be a regeneration and recreation of your spirit even if you have gone far into sin and trespasses.
5. REASSURANCE. Sometimes you are not sure of who you are or where you are, when He touches you, you are reassured, then you have confidence in Him.
6. RIGHTEOUSNESS. When He touches you, you become righteous.
7. REFRESHING. Even though you are tired and worn out, as the Lord touches you, a refreshing power flows from Him to you.
Transformation takes place in our body, soul and spirit whether He touches us, or we touch Him. Supernatural things happen, impossibility becomes possible when we touch Him by faith. Our Lord says, where two or three are gathered in His name, He is in the midst of them. Tonight, He is here to touch and make us whole.
Tonight’s message borders on the touch of faith on the one hand, and on the other hand, the result of the touch which is divine transformation, connection between us and God in every aspect of our lives.
A. A DECISIVE, DEFINITE TOUCH FOR TOTAL RECOVERY. Mark 5:25-29
The woman had the issue of blood for 12 years and she did not just lie down unconcerned but had spent all she had with no improvement. Then she heard of Jesus, the day you hear of Jesus, your salvation, healing, deliverance and victory you have been seeking and have spent so much money on is very near. Amen.
1. THE UNCLEAN AND INCURABLE WOMAN vs 25-26
That plague according to the Levitical order made the woman unclean. That was why she sneaked behind Jesus. Tonight, all things that made you unclean are removed. Her plague was incurable because all her efforts to be healed have failed even though she had spent all she had.
Jeremiah 30:12-13,15
• 12 For thus saith the LORD, Thy bruise is incurable, and thy wound is grievous.
• 13 There is none to plead thy cause, that thou mayest be bound up: thou hast no healing medicines.
• 15 Why criest thou for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the multitude of thine iniquity: because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.
For this woman, healing and deliverance came to her (Psalm 108:12) Hardly can any man help you, but Christ will help, He will make every impossible things possible. He has answers to all the knots of life that you cannot unravel.
Acts 4:12. Neither is there salvation, deliverance, relief, cure, or victory in any other. The woman heard about Jesus and she got her cure. He is the same yesterday, today and forever.
2. THE UNCHANGEABLE AND INFALLIBLE WORD. Mark 5:27-28
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but the word of God will not pass away unfulfilled. The woman touched, what did she actually touch? The Word! (John 1:1-4,14) Jesus has been the Word from the beginning, He has power to create, replace everything missing in you for your health. He has the power to heal and deliver.
Christ is the Word. He is the unchangeable and infallible word (Romans 10:17). The woman heard of the Word and faith rose up in her.
1 Thessalonians 2:13. It is important and profitable to receive the Word as from God, and not from man. Then it will profit us.
3. THE UNDENIABLE AND IRREFUTABLE WONDER. Mark 5:27-29
The woman received the power of Christ which worked in her, and she experienced an undeniable and irrefutable wonder. Christ, His power and authority are still the same (Mark 3:10) Many other people apart from the woman also touched Him and were made whole (ch 6:54-56) Many sick people were willing to touch the garment of Jesus for healing (Luke 6:17-19) Many people came to learn of Christ and also receive His healing touch.
In the woman, the touch produced an:
1. Incomparable miracle
2. Irresistible healing
3. Irreplaceable miracle
4. Indisputable miracle
5. Irreversible miracle
6. Incomprehensible miracle
7. Indispensable miracle
B. THE DISCERNED, DISCLOSED TOUCH BY HIS TRUTHFUL REVELATION. Mark 5:30-33
I am happy and grateful that I have a Saviour who knows all things, a Redeemer who knows all things even before you and I know:
• The good and the bad,
• The upright and the ugly,
• The true and the false, He knows all things.
• The hidden and the revealed,
• The secret and the open, He knows it all.
Nothing can be kept hidden from Him. All your anxieties, cares, thoughts, problems, the unbelief, faith and expectations, what you are thinking now, He knows everything. All hidden actions and attitudes, all hidden atrocities and abominations are known to our God.
He knows your actions of faith, and your acts of faithfulness, everything will be revealed and rewarded. He knows every actions of filthiness and falsehood and He will expose and punish all.
All unconfessed sins He knows, all unrighteous secrets, unclean habits, unlawful relationships, ungodly covenants, He knows. All unfaithful transactions will be exposed and punished by Him.
The very fact that Christ knows everything is enough to make us live a life that is clean, full and powerful. Whenever you are praying, you must know that whatever you want to pray about He already knows. He knows the origin, source and solution to the problem: how it came and how it will be taken away (Hebrews 4:12-13; Jeremiah 23:24; Job 23:24; 26:6; 34:21-22; Psalm 33:13-15; 90:18; 139:2,7,11-12) Do not hide anything in darkness thinking He does not know. Do not hide anything from Him. He knows all things.
John 11:14-15, 16:30. Jesus said to His disciples that Lazarus was dead and at the same time, that they would go and wake him up. He will wake you and everything dead in you up, whatever is dead in your life, brain, and family, He will revive you tonight. To the desperate situation in your life, Jesus would do something.
ch 16:29-30
• 29 His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
• 30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.
The disciples affirms here, after following and hearing from Jesus for years that He knows all things.
Revelation 2:2a. Jesus knows your works, words, thoughts, actions, etc (vs 9,13,19; 3:1,8,15) He knows everything about you: your concerns, desires, even what you desire tonight, He will satisfy every longing soul in Jesus name.
C. THE DESIRABLE DIVINE TOUCH FOR A TRANSFORMING RENEWAL. Mark 5:34
How did the woman show and demonstrate faith? She heard what others heard and took no action. They say, Jesus is wonderful, great, a miracle worker, Saviour and Redeemer but they did not put up any action (James 2:17,20,26) Faith without work, action, touching the Lord is dead. Active, visible faith will bring the desired miracles. The stretching forth of the hand by the woman made a lot of difference.
Hebrews 4:2. Some people come to the Bible study every time but the words they hear do not mix with faith in them. They do not personalize and internalize the word. You are there with serious problems and incurable diseases which you have carried here and there, are you just hearing the word as mere sounds or are you going to profit through them? Here is your chance, let the word mix with faith (visible, active) and do something in your life.
Acts 3:16. To receive your miracles, have faith in God. Faith in Christ, not in you or your ability saves, heals, delivers and gives us the victory (Ephesians 2:8) Without active faith, no soul can be saved. To believe that Christ is Saviour is not enough, confession of the sins and repentance must follow.
Acts 15:9. For anything, and everything you need, you will touch the Lord and He will touch you too.
What does the touch of the Lord do?
Genesis 32:25. It was that touch of the angel of God which went to work on Esau which made an enemy became a friend. He saw Jacob, they both embraced and wept.
1 Kings 19:5-8. Elijah was discouraged and depressed, he wanted to die. The touch of God through an angel revived him and he received strength for the journey ahead of him. He who wanted to die did not, but at the end, he went up alive in rapture.
Isaiah 6:5-8. Just like Isaiah, the touch of the live coal of the Lord will purge and purify you, and the assignment you carry out for the Lord will be fruitful.
Jeremiah 1:5-10. From the touch of the Lord on the tongue of Jeremiah, he received power to pull down, root out, destroy and throw down the kingdoms of darkness, and build and plant the kingdom of God.
Daniel 9:21-22. The angel of the Lord visited and touched Daniel (10:8-12,15-19) A hand touched Daniel, imparting peace and strength to him. He was strengthened.
Luke 7:12-15. The touch of Jesus made the son of the widow who died to come back to life. Jesus told the mother not to weep. Her son sat up and Jesus delivered him alive to his mother. Tonight, a Divine touch is coming upon you.
The touch of the Lord will bring:
1. RECREATION. All that have gone bad in your life will be recreated at the touch of the Lord.
2. RECONCILIATION. A touch of love, reconciling you to the Father.
3. RE-EMPOWERMENT. All weakness, frailty, drooping and sluggishness will vanish away.
4. REFINING. This happened to Isaiah when the live coal touched his tongue, and he was sanctified.
5. REVITALIZATION. Look at Daniel, he was weak with no strength, he could not rise up but laid down there, and the hand of God touched him and he was revitalized.
6. RESURRECTION. Look at that boy, the only child of the widow being carried out for burial, the Lord touched him and he came back to life.
7. REPRODUCTION. Tonight, the touch of the Lord for reproduction is coming to you, no one will leave here empty handed. The Lord will touch you tonight. You have heard tonight about all the areas of the touch of God. That woman said if I can but touch the hem of the garment of the Lord. Rise up and pray tonight, touching the Lord by faith.
Prayer:
• Pray and ask God for healing and intervention in every aspect of your life necessary.
• Pray for our Pastor, that he himself will receive the touch of God in his life, health and ministry.
