MESSAGE ANCHORED BY THE GENERAL SUPERINTENDENT.

TOPIC: CHRIST’S HIGH PRIESTLY PRAYER FOR ALL HIS DISCIPLES

JOHN 17:1-12; 1:18; 3:34; 5:19; 6:27; 8:28-29; 10:36; 14:13

Praise the Lord. Wonderful to be together tonight. Are you happy you're here tonight? And those who are coming for the first time, I welcome you afresh again IN Jesus Name. And we pray that the Bible study tonight will enrich every life, empower everyone, make you excited to serve the Lord, I pray, the revelation of the word will come to every life tonight IN Jesus Name. We are coming to gospel according to Saint John chapter 17. Of all the chapters in John, of all the chapters in the New Testament, this chapter is very peculiar, very special and unique because this records the prayer of JESUS Christ. And it is so deep, it's so rich, it's so solemn, it's so sacred that when people read the prayer, in their getting into what the Son of God, Jesus Christ is speaking to the Heavenly Father and is like we are listening to Him and we are watching Him as He talks to the Heavenly Father. He talks about Himself, He talks about the Father, He talks about the disciples, and He talks about the need of the word, He brings everything together in this prayer, and is like we are kneeling down and then we are listening to Him talking to the Father.

John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

17:2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.  17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.  17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.  17:5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.  17:6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.  17:7 Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.  17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine.

17:10 And all mine are thine, and thine are mine; and I am glorified in them.

17:11 And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are.

17:12 While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name: those that thou gavest me I have kept, and none of them is lost, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.. He was here on earth, He was about to go to heaven and heaven had been on His mind every time and all these disciples He got them converted and He got them transformed, and He lifted up their minds to heaven, and He was the One that taught the disciples that when they pray to our Father which hath in heaven, He makes God so near and He makes God so precious, and He gives us the relationship between sons and Father,  and He the unique Son of God. And as you see the solemnity and sacredness, you will see the prayer, He shows you too how to approach the Heavenly Father. Now that you're born again, He shows you how you too can approach the Heavenly Father. No one knew the Heavenly Father like JESUS, and to anyone that He will reveal the Father to, He says the hour is come. These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: And so you see what we are reading about in John 17, is the solemn prayer, the sacred prayer, the supernatural prayer of JESUS Christ the Son of God to the Heavenly Father. Christ's prayers was to God, in this prayer that is recorded, He spoke about the Father, He spoke about the Son, He spoke about the church, He spoke about the word, and He gave the reason why He's praying this prayer. Christ was praying as an High priest, as the high priest of our professions, He was praying as the One that was going to make the final sacrifice, and that sacrifice represents the heavenly Father, and He prays for the people who are already partakers of His salvation, and those who will be partakers of the salvation. Christ prayed for His Own disciples who already were saved, who already were following Him, who already were disciples, who already had the sins forgiven and He had given the power and the Grace to go and sin no more. He prayed for the disciples in particular, He prayed for us the believers in particular in this chapter 17. At the end, He will be on the Cross and He will pray for the world that God should forgive them. But here, He's praying for the church, He's praying for you, in verse 7, He says, Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.  17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

17:9 I pray for them: I pray not for the world, but for them which thou hast given me; for they are thine. The children of God do not belong to the world, they were saved already and their names were written in heaven. As you read verse 20, He says His prayer is not limited to this initial disciples, He included us also in His prayer. He prays for the people that will believe after hearing the message of Salvation. When you believe in your heart that JESUS is Saviour, this prayer includes you, includes all the believers. The prayer emphasises the deep relationship between Christ the Son, and God the Father. In fact as you think about Jesus Christ talking about the Father and talking about Himself, a Son, you will find that reveal in John 1:18. He speaks familiarly about God and Himself. Only JESUS can reveal the Father like no other person can, He's the Only Begotten Son who declares God as Father. He also talks about Himself as Son, you're going to find that through out the gospel according to Saint John because this was the relationship He kept with the Father, and this relationship had began even before the world began because He is the everlasting Father, and He is the eternal Son. And when you bring both together, you have Him, eternal everlasting Father and then you have JESUS Christ the everlasting Son. Christ is always declaring to people that Father loved Him. You should always understand the relationship between God and Christ. He is the Son, and then God the Father. The Father loves Him and He has given all things unto Him. Christ has total, final and complete authority, and the Father has complete love and authority as well. God is the eternal Father, and Jesus is the everlasting Son. He chooses to be so united and so much under the control of the Father, even though He has been eternally and everlasting Himself, yet He came to the earth and He makes Himself of no reputation, whatsoever the Father does, that's also what the Son does. And so you see that relationship between the Father and the Son that He will do nothing except what the Father will approve of, except what the Father will instruct Him to do. He will do nothing except what the Father will allow Him to do. And is so important when you come to John 17, and then you see the prayer, you read the prayer and you learn from the revelation of what Jesus Christ said. You will see the emphasis on the Father, you will see the emphasis on the Son, and you will see the revelation of the relationship between the Father and the Son. You will see the love, you will see the unity, you will see the obedience of the Son to the Father, you will see the authority of the Father over the son. He emphasises the fact that God is the Father and He is the Son.

POINT ONE: THE PRAYER OF THE SON BEFORE HIS FATHER.

JOHN 17:1-5; 11:41-43; 12:23; 13:1,31,32; PSALMS 2:6-8; PHILIPPIANS 2:5-11; HEBREWS 1:8-9; 1 JOHN 5:4,5,13,18-20; PSALMS 90:2; JOHN 17:24

Christ is the One who died for us on the Calvary. You see the prayer of JESUS, He wanted glory and appreciation from the Father, He wanted exaltation from the Father according to what we read in John. The mind of Christ is always on the work the Father had given to Him. He concentrated on it, He focused on it, and He finished the work, then He pray that the Father should glorify Himself in the Son, and whenever He pray to the Father, He looks at heaven, having the assurance that whenever He prayed, the Father always answer Him. Tonight He will take away whatever hinders answer to prayer, and He will roll away the stone of hindrance in your life IN Jesus Name. Before we pray, we know already God has answered us because He's faithful, He has answered your prayers tonight, He answers prayer often, and whatever you pray for tonight, and whatever Jesus pray for on your behalf, the Father has already answered, you will receive answers. You're going to come forth tonight like Lazarus came forth. The power of God is still unlimited and effective and is always activated when the Son prays. Jesus always know the hour that answer to His prayer will come, it's wonderful for you to know when the hour to achieve something comes, when the hour to get something done, and the hour of accomplishment, and the honour of breakthrough, and the hour of the will of God and the hour of whatever God decided to do, you will know that the hour has come. In the case of Jesus, He knew the hour, if you read the Bible very well, there are times they told Him to do something but He will say no because His hour has not come. But now at this time He knew that His hour has come, the hour of doing the Will of God and the hour of finalizing the redemptive work that the Father had given Him to do here on earth, and it's good for you when your hour comes and you know that this is your hour. Jesus knew when the hour came that He should leave the earth and then go to the Father. Jesus prayed that the Father should glorify the Son, He knew when the Father would glorify Him, and He knew what the Father was going to do concerning the Son, the father was actually going to give the world to be redeemed by the Lord Jesus Christ, Jesus Christ said, now the hour has come. He was about to be the sacrificial Lamb, He was about to make the atonement for the sins of the whole world, that's why He said the hour has come and then the work will totally finish. Being the Son of God is not accident, it had been already agreed in heaven, it's a decree from heaven. The Lord Jesus Christ actually has ownership of the whole world because He sacrificed to redeem the whole world. The Lord has given everything to the Lord Jesus Christ, that's why He said, go ye into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. Anyone that believes will be saved and prepare for heaven. Jesus Christ had the glory the Father had promised Him, we see His submission, we see His humility, and as a result of that, that glory came, that exaltation and approval from heaven came. Jesus was equal with the Father and is wasn't something snatching, it wasn't something He was robbing or taking away from God without His consent. Jesus Christ humbled Himself so that He could sacrifice His life for the world at Calvary. What Christ has done is to sacrifice Himself on the Cross of Calvary, that's why He said the hour has come. Is the hour of the final obedience on the Cross of Calvary, shedding His blood so that whosoever will call on the Name of the Lord will be saved. And if you have not been saved, today is the day of your salvation, and if you're saved already, tonight you will appreciate the salvation the Lord had given you more than ever before. God has put all things in subjection under His feet. Normally, by covenant, everything is under the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ and eventually we are going to see that because every tongue is going to confess that Jesus is Lord to the glory of the Father. But there are still some unbelievers outside, they have not come under the control of Christ, that's why He said normally the father has given him all things, He gives Him authority, and He's going to rule and reign over the whole universe but at the present age, there are some people who have not submitted themselves to Christ, they will come, they will be submissive to Christ. When JESUS came to this world, He gave us His authority and power, but now, He has been glorified and the death we should have tasted, Christ has tasted it for us and now you can come, and as you call on the Name of the Lord, you will be saved. Christ has given us the Power to overcome the world, the one who do not overcome is because he doesn't have faith. If you say you cannot, you will not overcome, but you can do all things through Christ who strengthens you, every temptations, every trials, every sin, you can overcome because you're born of God. As you come to the Lord and you believe that JESUS is the Son of God, you're going to be saved, and then you will have the victory. There are some people that do not know whether they are overcamer or not, you can know as believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and then you have the revelation of the Spirit of God because the Spirit of God bear witness in your heart that you are a child of God, as you believe, you will know that whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin. There are some people that say they cannot overcome sin, they cannot do without sinning, and every Sunday they go to church and confess, saying we are all sinners, we are not all sinners because there are some people that know God and they don't sin, they leave the sin business alone because the light of Christ comes into them, and the light of righteousness comes into them. The Son of God has come and He has given us understanding, the moment you repent of your sin, and the moment you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, He has given you understanding that you may know that you are in Him that is true. He's the true God and the eternal life. You see the prayer of the Lord Jesus Christ, what He was telling the Father. He said He had glory with the Father before the world began. Jesus Christ is everlasting, He's eternal, He had been in heaven from all eternity. He had glory and majesty with God before the world began. Jesus Christ was not created, He's been there for all eternity before the foundation of the world. And now that He was going back to the Father, He was asking the Father to glorify Him with the glory that He had with Him before the world began. That's part of the prayer of JESUS Christ.

POINT TWO: THE PROOF OF THE SALVATION OF HIS FOLLOWERS.

JOHN 17:6-10; 10:27-29; 15:19,3; 17:14-16; 1 THESSALONIANS 2:13; 1 JOHN 4:14-16; HEBREWS 7:25,26; 9:24.

There are many people that do not understand that JESUS Christ actually gives salvation, gives forgiveness, gives redemption to those His followers while He was still on earth, but the Bible makes it very clear, you're going to see from the prayer of JESUS, what He was telling the Father concerning this disciples that they are saved and they were real children of God. There are many people that were sometimes asking the question that those disciples of Christ, were they actually born again because Jesus Christ has not gone to Calvary yet, they were asking could anybody be born again while Jesus has not yet crucified, Jesus Christ made the proof of the salvation of those who followed Him, and they fully gave themselves unreservedly unto Christ. The disciples were actually saved, they kept the word of JESUS Christ, they had known that everything is of Him, they were different from the Pharisees, they were different from the people of the world. The Lord Jesus Christ gave the word unto them, they didn't reject the word, they didn't turn away from the word, they received the word and they had believed that Jesus is Lord. That already distinguished and differentiate them and make them different from the people of the world. The disciples were saved, they belonged to God, they believed Jesus Christ. Those who follow JESUS and they left darkness and their sins behind and they follow JESUS Christ unreservedly, Jesus Christ said they are His sheep, they were saved, they had eternal life and they shall never perish. That's the proof of the salvation of the followers of Christ, they were not sinners anymore, they were not even backsliders, these were the people that Christ has chosen out of the world, and they belong completely unto the Lord, they were not of the world, they belong to Christ, they were saved and because of that, the world hated them. Their lives have been converted, the Lord cleanse them, the Lord transformed them and they were clean. They were born again already, they belong to the Kingdom of God already, so Jesus prayed to the Father to keep them from evil. Obviously, they were real children of God. They were rarely and truly born again and their names are written in the book of life in heaven. If somebody is not saved, his name cannot be written down in heaven. But this people were saved, they had real kind of salvation we have today, they accepted and received the word of God and that word of God worked in their lives, and today whosoever will accept the word of God that Jesus Christ is the only Saviour, that person will be saved and then His life will be turned around. As you turn away from your sin, and you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, that word of God works effectively in your life, that word will totally change your life and your neighbours will see and know. Whosoever shall call on the Name of Jesus shall be saved, no discrimination, if you will confess JESUS as your Saviour, you will be saved. You will know and you will believe that he that dwells in God, God is in him. Whosoever you are, however far you've gone in sin, Christ is able to save because He's Redeemer and He has paid the price of salvation for everyone. He ever liveth to make intercession for us. Jesus is making intercession for everyone that believes on the Lord Jesus, and as you key in to that prayer and you accept that salvation, the Lord will save you and He will keep you in that salvation. Christ is now in the presence of God, and He appears for everyone that believes on Him, and as you believe on Christ, you're going to see that manifestation of faith in Christ that your life will be totally turn around. If you're follower of Christ, if you keep on walking with the Lord, salvation will come to you tonight. As you call on the Name of the Lord, salvation will come to you. And your neighbour will see it in your life. If it has not happened, today it'll happen. If it had happened already, there will be a greater assurance and deeper assurance in your heart that you belong to Christ, and your neighbors will see, and the power that belongs to the people of Christ, that power will be manifested in your life IN Jesus Name.

POINT THREE: OUR PROTECTION THROUGH THE SON BY THE FATHER.

JOHN 17:11-12 .

Jesus protects us, He preserves us, and so we can remain in the Kingdom after we've come to know the Lord. Jesus prayed to the Father for the protection of the righteous, so that they will not fall, so that they will not sin. While He was present with them, He kept them, and now that He was not going to be with them physically, He prayed for their protection. Now, the Father had given you to Jesus Christ, and as you abide in Him, you will not be lost, as you consecrate more to Him, you will not be lost. And God will give you the grace to resist temptation, you will not be lost IN Jesus Name. Nobody will be a daughter of perdition, you will not be a son of perdition.

i. Preservation from sin and defilement.

John17:11; Psalms 19:13; 119:9-11; Romans 6:7,8,12,18,22.

The Lord Jesus Christ kept His disciples while He was with them on earth physically. He kept them from sin, He kept them from defilement, temptation and trials will come, Christ is the One that can keep us. All the pollution will try to come into our lives, He will keep you IN Jesus Name. Christ can so keep you that no defilement of the world can touch you, He will do keep you that sin will not have dominion over you. Christ is the One that can keep us from presumptuous sins. We are preserved from sin and defilement by taking in the word of God. You will not sin against God. We come to the Lord, we become dead to sin, we are totally separate from sin, we come to the Lord and there's a change of life, there's a transformation and that transformation makes us righteous and then we are kept away from sinning. You will be free from sin, the Lord will make you free, the Lord will keep you free, you will have testimony of freedom IN Jesus Name.  Accept it to yourself, believe it in yourself that you're dead to sin and alive in Christ. If sin comes, you will not allow sin to enter into your life, you will not be pull down by temptation, now you are more than a conqueror. And when temptations come, you will say no, that heaven you're going to get there IN Jesus Name. That's why He said, follow Peace with all men and holiness without which no man shall see the Lord, let not sin reign in your mortal body.

ii. Protection by our Saviour and Deliverer.

John 17:11-12; Psalms 91:1-16; 121:3-8.

Jesus is our Saviour, Jesus is our Deliverer and He will protect you from every evil, every evil spirit, under your feet. satanic attack, under your feet. Jesus kept His disciples and none of them is lost, you will not be lost to the devil, devil will not get you again, he will not possess you again, you will not be his property anymore. The one that dwells in the Lord shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Satan cannot catch you there, evil spirit, powers of darkness cannot catch you there. He shall cover you with His feather. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night. He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. (Psalms 91:1-16). You are more than a conqueror, you are an overcomer, and the power of the Lord will keep you from Satan, keep you from evil power.   He is our Saviour, He is our deliverer, and He protects the people He has saved, and He keeps on delivering us. You will call upon the Lord tonight and He will answer your prayers tonight. He will not suffer your foot to be moved, the Lord will be your Keeper, He shall preserve you from all evil, you will be protected, you will be kept, the Lord shall preserve your soul, the Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in. You're protected, and the Lord will preserve you IN Jesus Name.

iii. Prevention of eternal suffering and damnation.

John 17:12; 5:28,29; 1 Peter 1:35; Jude 20-21,24,25; Ephesians 3:20,21; Act's 4:28-33

You will not perish. Here is the protection of those believers and the protection of the people that know the Lord. Negative prophecy will not be fulfilled in your life, you see Judas Iscariot, he didn't abide, and now he's suffering, there's damnation, but JESUS said, all the others that are willing to abide, all the people here that are willing to abide, He protects, He prevents them from eternal suffering and damnation. There's damnation at the end of the life of sinning, but for those who believe on the Lord, who abide in the Lord, who continue with the Lord, who remain in the Lord, who claim the victory, who enjoy their victory and testify in their victory. You will not be lost IN Jesus Name. They that have the grace of God to do good, they will come to the resurrection of life, and they that have done evil unto the resurrection of damnation. That's where Judas Iscariot went, I will not follow Judas Iscariot. The Lord keep you. When you are praying by yourselves and inspiration comes, and the Holy Ghost has taken over, don't run out of time, pray, when the Holy Ghost is making you to pray, pray, there's preservation, protection and power flowing here tonight, and the Holy Ghost will assist us to pray and every foundations is going to shake out of your life, and the weak is going to become strong, and those who are slow, they are going to become fast, and everything that is lukewarmness in your life is being taken away and the Spirit of prayer will move you to pray, you will pray, Holy Ghost infilling will come, that Holy Spirit will take over your life and He will lift you in prayer, it might be in your house or in the church, you will not resist but you will pray in the Holy Ghost. The power of God, the Holy Ghost is here tonight, and Calvary is going to be mightily manifested in your life tonight IN Jesus Name. All that falling and rising, tonight it's going to stop. Weakness, yielding to temptation is going to fall, God is willing and able to keep you from falling. The Lord wants us to pray, so that the power of God will move in our lives, the power of God will energize you and all the weakness will be totally taken away. If you want victory, overcoming Power, strength to stand and to be able to overcome every challenges of life, it will happen tonight. He gives us Power, He gives us understanding, and He gives us assurance that as we are asking and you want to be strong in the inner man, you want to be fill with the spirit of God, is available tonight, and as you rely upon Christ to keep you, He will keep you today. As you are going forth, you will live victoriously, you will live triumphantly, and you will conquer every challenge IN Jesus Name. You will have power, you will have authority, you will have the same victory and the Name of Jesus, and great grace will be upon you, tonight, sufficient ability, sufficient enablemnt shall come, answer is coming tonight IN Jesus Name. Jesus prayed that the Father will glorify Him, He also prayed that the Father should keep His disciples. If you pray tonight, it will happen in your life. Weakness, sinning, falling and rising will go tonight, Jesus will be glorified in you tonight.
